Instant Terrain

User forum for SketchUp extension Instant Terrain

SketchUp Pro 2019

I recently downloaded a copy of Instant Terrain for use in SketchUp Pro 2019. I have not been able to get it to work. At first I tried it on a group of elevation points (crossed lines), then realized that the extension can not work with lines. So, I created a collection of standard objects, pasted them at the elevation of each of my points, then tried to create a terrain over them. Still no success. The process looks straightforward in the quick tutorials but obviously I am missing something. Please help.

Instant Terrain not working in Sketchup 2018

Hello Chuck, I have Instant Architecture Extention and it worked well when I used Sketchup 2014, but now that I moved to 2018 I tried to use Instant Terrain and it does not do anything when I run it, just pretends it makes something but not result at all. I tasted again in 2014 and it works great. I don't know what to do. Please help!!

Terrain from contour lines in Sketchup 2016

Hi all

I tried to create a terrain over contour lines in Sketchup 2016 the same way I did with Sketchup 2015. It always results in a single plane at the lowest point with the dimensions of the overall footprint and the specified resolution.
As I mentioned above, it perfectly worked in V 2014.
I tried some simplified stuff as shown in the tutorial video and this also worked quite fine in V 2016. What could be the issue? As I already scoped several resolutions this cannot be an issue.

Phil

Instant Terrain How it works?

Hi,

I have installed Instant Terrain and followed instructions shown in video. I made objects shown in video and then Extentions> Vali Architects > Instant Terrain > Make Terrain over Objects. A popup came up asking Grid Spacing, I gave 1' (also checked 3" and 10') I pressed ok, script ran and the nothing happened. another window came up showing navigation canceled. once it worked but results were not like shown in video.

Need help!

Create terrain that "stops" at defined edges?

Hi Chuck, et al.,

I'm enjoying the Instant Architecture plugin set. I'd like to know if there's a way to do the following with the Instant Terrain tool:

More geometry versus less

Hi there,

I just purchase the instant terrain in the hopes to simplify my terrain as shown in the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XNZsdATbj8)

However, this plugin actually makes my terrain more complicated. I am not sure if I have the correct plugin as my interface looks different from the video's choices as well (but perhaps it is a newer version).

My only options are "make terrain over objects" and "add precision". When I take a small portion of the terrain and perform the add precision, it actually creates more geometry versus less and simply ???

Can it work with "holes"?

Hi,

I have a mesh that currently has a hole in it (generated by instant site grader). Can this script retopologize with leaving the hole or does it "fill" it?

Problems in SketchUp Make

I got the Instant Terrain plugin today and I can't get it to operate properly. I select all the terrain geometry and run the plugin, but it stalls out with the info on the bottom saying "Analyzing Terrain ... Please Wait 200". I think it is starting to do something, because that previous number (200) starts at 0 and progresses. But it takes a very long time and in the end just stalls out. I let it sit for two hours (thinking that the geometry might be especially complex), but I am beginning to suspect that this plugin doesn't work in SketchUp Make. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Surface from TIN is a group, when exploded is not one surface?

I have created a surface from an existing TIN. The surface looks correct and appears to have generated perfectly. The issue is that I am trying to now use Instant Road on this generated surface. I seem to have to explode it to use instant road. However if I explode it the surface becomes a series of triangles (TIN) based on the new smoothed/interpolated surface. I am not able to select it as one surface to apply Instand Road. On your video you state that you can now use the surface to create an Instant Road on. How are you doing that? What am I missing?

Falling short

Just install Instant Terrain and seems to working but not as expected. I drew a house lot, a house slab on the lot, and a curving driveway to the house. With push pull I raised the house slab 6'. Using Fredo's curvishear plug in, ramped the two edges of the driveway up from the edge of the lot to the 6' elevation of the house slab. Using sandbox "from scratch" I created the surface of the ramped drive. Selecting the lot, the house, and the ramped drive, I used Instant Terrain.
